The Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge was the second stop on our African safari adventure. Checking into the lodge knowing that we were surrounded by African wildlife was an absolute thrill. A number of baboons could be found roaming around the property along with armed guards. That’s right… lodge employees could be found pacing the grounds with a gun in hand to protect guests from potential wildlife encounters.
Perched high on the edge of a towering cliff with panoramic views over Lake Manyara, Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge offers a particular blend of safari opportunities, peace and tranquillity and wildlife discovery.
The main lodge is located nearby the “vanishing horizon” pool, which is one of the most picturesque spots on the property. After a day of game drives, heading to the pool for a sundowner was one of our best memories from our stay.
The accommodations at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge are very unique in their design. They include a choice of circular, double-story, white-washed ‘rondavels’ (traditional circular buildings with conical thatched roofs), which are strung out along the edge of the cliff so as to allow for maximum views. Each spacious circular room has its own small veranda while the interior décor reflects the blue of the lake and the pink of its flamingos. Behind each bed hangs a spectacular hand-woven rug, while the furnishings and fittings reflect traditional Maasai beadwork.
After our stay at the Lake Manyara Serena Lodge for one night, we were ready to set out on our first game drive at Lake Manyara National Park. We had no idea the adventure, beauty and awe we would experience in the coming days.
